!roll 1d20.!tutorial, and start one with !tutorial <name>. If it's your first time using Avrae, we recommend trying out the Quickstart tutorial with !tutorial quickstart! You can also view the full command list with !help.

!character <name>, or try out the quickstart tutorial to learn how to import one!

!. Avrae will only run a command if a message starts with this prefix.
To use a command in Avrae, type the prefix, then the name of the command. For example, to roll a d20, send a message containing !roll d20. Try it now!
!roll d20

!roll <dice> is the command to roll some dice. Throughout the rest of this tutorial and other tutorials, we'll show commands in code blocks like this.
When you see something like <dice> or [dice], this is called an argument: it means you can put some input there, like the dice you want to roll. Arguments in brackets like <this> are required, and arguments in brackets like [this] are optional. Make sure not to include the brackets themselves!
!import <url>, using either the "Sharable Link" on your character sheet or the URL in the address bar of your browser.
!import <url>
Or, if you've already imported a character, switch to them now using !character <name>!

!character <name>.
Also, if you change your character sheet, Avrae will need to be updated to know about those changes. Whenever you do so, make sure to run !update to update your active character!
!check <skill>, !save <ability>, and !action <action>.
For example, you can make a Stealth check with !check stealth, a Dexterity save with !save dex, and an unarmed attack with !action "Unarmed Strike". Try these now!
!check <skill>
!save <ability>
!action <action>

!check <skill>.!save <ability>.

!action <action>.

!check <skill>.!save <ability>.!action <action>.14
Damage: 2 [bludgeoning] = 2
!check <skill>.!save <ability>.!action <action>.
!action - this is because Avrae can automate more actions than just attacks! Let's take a look at how to use some of your other actions.
!action. These abilities include not just attacks, but any features your character has from their race, class, or feats!
Let's try using an action. List the actions you have available with !action list, and then use one with !action <action>! Don't forget to use quotes around the action name if it has multiple words! You can choose to only use part of the full name, too, if it's very long.
!action list
!action <action>

!help <command> to get the command's help sent to you. Next, you might want to try the Playing the Game tutorial - start this tutorial with !tutorial Playing the Game.

!game status, which shows your current, maximum, and temporary hit points. It also shows any counters the character has associated with them, such as spell slots or special abilities like a Dragonborn's Breath Weapon or a Druid's Wild Shape. Try it out now to see your character's resources!
!game status

!game command too. First, let's look at temporary hit points, which uses the !game thp <amount> command. Try it now to give yourself some temporary hit points!
!game thp 5

!game hp with one of three options. The first is !game hp <amount>, which modifies your health by the given amount. If you use a negative value it removes that much health. Try it now to remove your previously set temporary hit points!
!game hp -5
!game hp set <hp>, which sets your hit points to a certain value. Try it to set your hit points to one!
!game hp set 1
!game hp max, which sets your current hit points to your maximum hit points. Try it now to heal back up!
!game hp max

!customcounter list. Try it now!
!customcounter list

!customcounter <name> <amount>, where "amount" is how much you want to add or subtract. Try using some of the Tutorial Counter!
Since the name of the counter has a space in it, remember to put quotes around it! We'll also use the shortcut !cc instead of !customcounter from now on.
!cc "tutorial counter" -2

!cc reset <name>. Try it now to reset Tutorial Counter back to its default!
!cc reset "tutorial counter"

!save death. Try making one now!
!game deathsave
!game deathsave fail or !game deathsave success.
Similarly, to reset your death saves, you can use !game deathsave reset. Let's take a look at a different way to reset everything: resting!
!game longrest
!game shortrest.
That's it for this tutorial! Now you know how to manage your hit points, custom counters, death saves, and rest. If you're a spellcaster, you'll want to take a look at the Spellcasting tutorial next with !tutorial spellcasting!
